Algebra I
Course Description: Algebra I is intended to teach students the beginnings of mathematical abstraction. We assume that the student is already competent in arithmetic and geometry. This class is intended to teach topics such as real numbers, exponents, variables, and equations as well as how to solve linear equations and linear inequalities.
Course Objectives: By the end of this course,
The student will be able to understand the real number system, the difference between rational and irrational numbers, and methods for ordering numbers.
The student will be able to handle variables in expressions and equations by manipulating such variables into the desired form.
The student will be able to solve and manipulate linear equations and expressions
The student will become familiar with the Cartesian plane
Prerequisites: The ability to handle basic operations in arithmetic and geometry
This course is typically offered in the Fall semester and is taught by Dr. Diener.
