Science and the Scientific Method

In the modern world, Science and the scientific method are very important tools for understanding natural phenomena. The scientific method requires the ability to perform experiments repeatedly and measure the outcomes determine what results occur under certain conditions. This kind of experimentation is most useful in the hard sciences such as Physics and Chemistry because it is possible to perform very precise and repeatable experiments in such disciplines. In disciplines where precise and repeatable experiments are difficult for one reason or another, such as Biology or Economics (it is impossible, example, to cause a member of a certain species to ingest a substance, measure the outcome, and then rewind time to give the creature a different substance to ingest!), it is necessary to conduct similar experiments and subsequently analyze the outcome using statistics. The discipline of statistics is occasionally considered to be a subfield of mathematics, but here at Free Range Schoolhouse, we teach statistics as a tool of Science. At present, we offer a basic Chemistry course, a Physics course, and a Statistics course; the schedule on which these courses are offered depends on the number of students who register for such classes.
